Over the past few episodes of “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” viewers witnessed an overwhelming discord in the marriage of Meghan and Jim Edmonds’. One main point of contention is the lack of time the newlyweds spend together. Jim splits half his time in Orange County and the other half in St. Louis, where he plays major league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Now we may know why Jim is preoccupied outside of his marriage, according to court documents, Jim was dealing with a lawsuit that could have potentially put his business and fortunes at risk.

According to court documents, Jeff Ruby, owner of a Cincinnati steakhouse, ‘The Precinct’ and Jim Edmonds were embroiled in a civil lawsuit while Jim filmed the RHOC. And this may explain Jim’s aloofness with his wife, Meghan on camera.

Jeff Ruby and his company sued Jim Edmonds for trademark infringement after Edmonds opened up a restaurant with the same name and similar attributes in St. Louis. Ruby seeked financial compensation for damages and asked that Edmonds close his restaurant. Edmonds opened his spot in the fall of 2013.

Court documents reveal that Ruby alleged that Edmonds “embarked in a deliberate and willful campaign to circumvent and misappropriate Plaintiff’s exclusive rights in the Precinct Mark and the goodwill associated herewith.” Ruby also alleged that Edmonds had been to his restaurant “several times” while playing for the Cincinnati Reds back in 2010.

“Edmonds became uniquely and intimately aware of Plaintiff’s iconic Precinct restaurant,” Ruby said, alleging that his competitor purposely imitated his restaurant’s name, décor, and dress.”

The case was dismissed on May 27, 2015 after a year of back and forth legal wrangling, both parties agreed to settle the dispute out of court.

In the end, Edmonds closed his venue one week prior to the case settling, then reopened his establishment and renamed it ‘Jim Edmonds’s Space 15.’
