All About The Tea. Drunken Monkey closed Big Ang Mob Wives

Sad news for star of VH1’s “Mob Wives,” Angela “Big Ang” Raiola. Her famous Staten Island bar, ‘Drunken Monkey Bar and Grill’ was SHUT DOWN by the State Liquor Authority because of Big Ang’s felonious past.

An investigation uncovered that Big Ang, a convicted felon, was the bar’s silent owner, which is illegal in the State of New York.

Here’s the back story…

In 2003, Big Ang (Angela Raiola) pled guilty to federal drug charges and according to the law, this prohibits her from owning a bar without special permission from the state. According to the State Liquor Authority, Big Ang never applied to be the license holder of the bar. There are exceptions to this law (to those that apply) such as a certificate of relief from civil disabilities, a pardon, or a certificate of good conduct. All of which, Big Ang does not possess.

Although, SallyAnn Lombardi (Big Ang’s cousin), is listed on record as the liquor license holder, it was discovered, Big Ang is the true owner. The “Mob Wives” star is listed as signatory in a bank account associated with watering hole, and also has power of attorney over the bar.

The Drunken Monkey posted a brief statement on its Facebook page after the close,

“On behalf of all of us from the DRUNKEN MONKEY, we want to thank all of our patrons, friends and family for the love and support over the years. Although we cannot comment on the closure of the establishment, you can always reach us via this Facebook page. The DRUNKEY MONKEY wasn’t just a bar, it was a family and a home for many. It wasn’t just a location, it was a lifestyle. We were the first to extend a helping hand and will continue to do so from Facebook and other social media. With that being said, the doors on Forest Avenue may be closed but our HEARTS will always remain OPEN to you!”

The bar was hit with three charges 1) Availing, 2) Non bona fide, and 3) Improper conduct.

The “Availing” charge means  a liquor license holder has allowed a third-party to use or profit from the license. The “Non bona fide” for serving food two days a week, not five, as was originally listed on the liquor license. The “Improper conduct” charge relates to Big Ang’s illegal proprietorship in the bar.

The ‘Drunken Monkey’ is synonymous with “Mob Wives.” The famous Staten Island bar and tourist attraction has been the back drop of many drama-filled scenes involving Big Ang and her costars. #SaveTheDrunkenMonkey
