It’s a wrap! TLC has CANCELLED “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” in light of claims that Mama June (June Shannon), is dating Mark McDaniel, a convicted child molester and registered sex offender.
Mark McDaniel was convicted of aggravated child molestation in 2004 and served 10 years in prison. McDaniel was convicted of forcing oral sex on an 8-year-old, who is a relative of Mama June. At the time of the assault, her relative was 8 years old.
Mama June denied the claims in a statement posted to the Facebook page of daughter, Honey Boo Boo (Alana Thompson).
“I want to make a post trying to clear up the rumors,” Shannon began. “(R)emember you can’t believe everything you read! (People) sell stories to the tabloid everyday that r false! It isnt true i promise my kids r #1 priority over anything else and I would never put them in danger period over this or anything else they r my life this is my past I left him 10 yrs ago for it and I wouldn’t go back.”
The show’s future was already in jeopardy because of Shannon’s alleged relationship with McDaniel. TLC said in a statement that it was rethinking the future of “Honey Boo Boo.”
“TLC is not currently in production on ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. We are very concerned about this new information and are reassessing the future of the series.”
Back in September, Mama June split from Honey Boo Boo’s father, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson. The two were never legally married, but they exchanged vows back in may in front of Boo Boo and her three sisters.
When they split, they released a statement explaining they were unsure about the future of their relationship.
“Sugar Bear and I have decided to take some time apart to figure out some things in our relationship. We are taking things day by day, but regardless of what happens, the girls will always be our number one priority. We want to thank y’all for your support.”
UPDATE: Mama June posted the following video to Honey Boo Boo’s Facebook page today, responding to the scandal.
