RHONJ

Remember when “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” was the hottest show in the “Real Housewives franchise?”

Remember when RHONJ came on you were glued to your television set? It “was” the biggest night on television, drawing in top ratings. Well after Sunday’s RHONJ premiere episode, that’s all a distant memory now.

After “The Real Housewives of New York” and “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” posted record low ratings for their seasons, “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” followed suit — shedding nearly 2 million viewers from last year’s season premier.

According to Bravoratings, only a dismal 2.14 million viewers tuned in on Sunday night to watch the premiere episode. The demographic consisted of age group 18-49. These numbers are not good. Downright bad!

Season 6 was hyped up by the network and the hope was that Teresa Giudice’s legal woes would attract a boatload of viewers. However, it seems their strategy backfired, viewers just tuned out and genuinely don’t want to see Teresa Giudice and her family drama.

The feedback from many viewers is that the network’s exploitive portrayal of The Giudice family legal mess and it’s fallout was disturbing. Especially involving the children’s pain and anguish over their parents poor decisions. Many fans of the show vowed they would not watch and it appears many did say adios to the RHONJ

According to Bravo Ratings, the viewership started a rapid decline during season 5 after Teresa and her hubby, Joe Giudice’s indictments were announced. Many viewers felt conflicted with the ethical aspect of supporting a show that flaunted the spoils of criminals. That coupled with the network’s decision not to fire Teresa Giudice rubbed many viewers the wrong way.

Are you surprised the premier of the RHONJ debut to poor ratings? Sound off in the comments.
